What is ISO 45001?
ISO 45001 is the international standard for occupational health & safety management systems. It sets out a framework for identifying hazards, controlling risk, meeting legal duties and continually improving safety performance. Certification is awarded by an independent certification body and is increasingly required by UK clients and frameworks as a condition of tendering.
How much does ISO 45001 cost in the UK?
Ashdown Safety documents an ISO 45001 management system for a fixed £6,000. That covers the full documentation set ready for your certification audit. The separate certification-body assessment fee is paid to the certification body and depends on your size.
How long does ISO 45001 take?
We deliver the documentation in weeks rather than the several months typically quoted by larger consultancies. The exact timescale depends on the number of sites and your starting position, and is confirmed at the kick-off call.
Is ISO 45001 a legal requirement?
No. ISO 45001 is voluntary — but UK health & safety law still applies regardless, and many clients, principal contractors and frameworks make ISO 45001 a contractual requirement to win work.
What's the difference between ISO 45001 and CHAS or SSIP?
SSIP schemes such as CHAS assess your safety arrangements for contractor pre-qualification. ISO 45001 is a full management-system standard, independently certified, and generally regarded as the higher benchmark. A well-built ISO 45001 system makes SSIP submissions easier.

Yes. Every package is prepared so a UKAS-accredited assessor sees the documentation the way they expect. On-site attendance at the certification audit and post-audit corrective-action support are available as part of our Enterprise option.
Can I combine ISO 45001 with 14001 and 9001?
